- Pitchfork: Are there any new songs you're particularly excited about?
- BC: There is one song called "No One Like You" which Bobb and I joked is our Mazzy Star song because it has that really moody, sleepy feel to it. It's definitely my favorite song on the record. There are more slower songs on this record, which is exciting for me because I am much better at singing ballads. I wanted this record to showcase my voice, because in all honesty, that's what I'm best at. I've been singing my entire life but I was shy and self-conscious about my voice for a really long time. I grew out of that on this record. I'm not buried under a bunch of effects. There are also fewer harmonies throughout the record. Crazy For You has so many harmonies and so many backup vocals, but with this record I wanted to tone that down, make things more about the lead vocal, and make it really strong.
I need to figure out a way to get people to stop thinking of me as the ‘stoner, cat loving’ girl. I’m not really like that anymore. I mean, I am who I am— a weird valley girl who likes watching TV and going to Cardio Barre. I just want to enjoy my life and stop worrying about what other people think. Writing this record is the first step to the more grown-up me.
